| Quito as with most South American cities, it was already populated by indigenous people, when the conquering Spaniards founded it. However, in the case of Quito there’s a twist. Originally it was founded a couple hundred kilometres south at the place where another town is today, Riobamba. And only a few months later it was moved to its current location, and was “re-founded”.
